WE WALK – Strategies from Zurich

12th of August to 19th September 2021

With Mirjam Bayerdörfer, Kira van Eijsten, Gisela Hochuli, Verica Kovacevska, künstlerinnenkollektiv marsie,

Marie-Anne Lerjen, Maricruz Peñaloza, Iris Rennert, Tanja Trampe, Julia Weber

WE WALK thematizes the artistic practice of walking in the public urban space of Zurich. Not only since the Corona pandemic have questions been raised about new urban spaces and a new understanding of the public sphere. Public space is a crucial component of a lively, diverse, socially and ecologically stable urban landscape. The artists present in this exhibition have long been engaged in participatory knowledge transfer, cultural participation, negotiation and appropriation of territories of Zurich's urban public space. How can artistic interventions change the quality of encounters and exchanges in urban space? How does walking unmask traditional forms of design and planning and urban policy measures? This exhibition and actions/walks show critical and artistic explorations of the limits and possibilities of this most everyday of modalities.

A project by künstlerinnenkollektiv marsie and lerjentours.

The exhibition WE WALK connects to the Walking as a Question - HUB Zurich collaboration project with the International Walking Art Encounters/Conference in Prespa (Greece) (July 4-10, 2021).
